There’s a rise in panic attacks in today’s world, particularly among youngsters. In the previous generation, people were made of “thick skin,” but today’s generation lives a comfortable life with luxuries, phones, internet, etc., and sudden changes in situations come as a surprise to them. Sometimes, they are unable to handle these panic attacks.
Firstly, let’s begin here — What is a Panic Attack?
Panic attacks are sudden turns of events that are negative or carry bad news, or situations that bring fear, insecurity, and helplessness. They come as sudden shocks to a normal or happy person and take them by surprise.
Of late, I have been hearing about panic attacks, especially from youngsters, due to some situation or temptation they are trapped in. There’s definitely a way to deal with this.
In the early days of my ministry, panic attacks were common for me, as I was living a life of faith and was very uncertain about my needs being met. I was unsure of my earnings, insecure about getting through the month, and feared that I might let myself down in meeting bills and commitments, etc.
With each such situation I faced, I learned precious lessons, and today I stand strong and bold to face any such attack — by His grace.
This is what I learned!
Whenever there’s a thumping in your heart, fear, or restlessness during a panic attack, run towards the Word of God. Always carry the Bible with you. Memorize scripture and treasure it in your heart in advance so that you can stand strong during such attacks.
The Bible is full of positivity. It carries a great vibe of positive energy. Every verse in the Bible is the Spirit and Life of God, with the power to put us back on track. Hallelujah! Amen!
For example:
-
In financial turmoil, read and apply Philippians 4:19.
-
In fear, read and apply Psalms 27:1–3, Isaiah 41:10, or 2 Timothy 1:7.
…and so on. There are tons of topics with Bible verses available right at your fingertips. Begin reading them until the panic dissipates.
If you are a non-Christian or do not fully know the Bible, still God cares for you — you are His creation. Here is what you must do:
Begin speaking affirmations like — “I will not fear,” “I am confident,” “This too shall pass,” etc.
Speak against the situation continually until the symptoms disappear and you will see yourself grow strong. Or, go to the internet, watch and hear motivational speeches on the subject that challenge you, motivate you, and give you knowledge and insight. Some soft-skill motivators — and especially preachers — have an innate ability to drive away negativity from us through their sermons and teachings.
Talk to someone, get counselled and encouraged, get prayed for, and fight back. Remember this great principle — This too shall pass.
Every setback is not there to stay; everything will pass away soon, and you will see the light of day.
Blessings and peace to you.
